1-day workshop facilitated by a PBS Wisconsin Education Specialist. The focus of the workshop will be on tools, resources, and strategies to teach students how to analyze and evaluate online sources of information.

Training will include:

  • Lateral Reading 
  • Identifying bias in sources
  • Critically analyzing media

Registration Fee:

FREE for CESA 5 School Improvement Services Member or Instructional Technology Support Services Members

Standards Addressed:

Social Studies: 

Standard SS.Inq2: Wisconsin students will gather and evaluate sources.

Standard SS.Inq3: Wisconsin students will develop claims using evidence to support reasoning.

Science: 

SCI.SEP7.h Students use appropriate and sufficient evidence and scientific reasoning to defend and critique claims and explanations about the natural and designed world. Arguments may also come from current scientific or historical episodes in science. This includes the following: Compare and evaluate competing arguments or design solutions in light of currently accepted explanations, new evidence, limitations (e.g., trade-offs), constraints, and ethical issues. Evaluate the claims, evidence, and reasoning behind currently accepted explanations or solutions to determine the merits of arguments. 

English Language Arts:

. Engage thoughtfully with diverse perspectives; synthesize comments, claims, and evidence made on all sides of an issue; resolve contradictions when possible; and determine what additional information or research is required to deepen the investigation or complete the task.

Health:

Cancellation Policy: Registered participants will receive a full refund if they cancel before 10 working days before an event, minus any material costs that have already been incurred. Because of our commitment to the trainer and the food vendor, participants who cancel less than 10 working days or do not attend, will be billed the full fee. CESA 5 reserves the right to cancel any event. Registered participants will be notified via email if a cancellation occurs and will receive a full refund. Inclement weather policy: Every effort will be made to hold an event. CESA 5 will notify participants via email as soon as possible if an event has been canceled due to weather conditions.
