Families have a wealth of knowledge to share, particularly about their language, culture, home life, and of course, their child. Research shows that strong home-school connections are related to positive learning and developmental outcomes for children from diverse backgrounds.

Building upon the understanding that multilingual families bring significant assets of language and culture to enrich the school and community, in this workshop we will explore best practices to build parent engagement and involvement and learn strategies to support communication with multilingual families that is frequent, ongoing, and responsive to families’ needs, even if you do not speak the home language. Together we will plan ways to build strong home-school relationships with the families in your district. 

OBJECTIVES:

• Learn tips for engaging families of multilingual learners as active partners in their child’s learning. 

• Explore considerations for strengthening family engagement practices and building relationships with families.  

• Review various free forms of technology that can be used to communicate with families in multiple languages.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

• Any teachers and staff working with multilingual learners 

• Paraeducators supporting multilingual learners 

• Guidance counselors 

• Program coordinators and directors

   $160 per participant

Cancellation Policy:

Any registration cancellation must be received at least 8 business days before event in order for a full conference fee refund to be issued (full refunds do not include service fees. Service fees are nonrefundable).Registration cancellations received 1-7 business days before an event, a refund, minus $50 for each participant, will be issued. Persons who are registered, but not in attendance on the day of the session ("no call, no show") will be charged the full registration fee. CESA 6 reserves the right to cancel any session due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by email if a cancellation occurs.
