Penny Kittle: Engage and Empower Adolescents with 4 Essential Studies
Extend the Learning PD Bundle  --  Bring Penny's Teaching to Life in Your Classroom!

As educators, we often leave professional development events energized to bring new practices into our classrooms, but without dedicated time and support, it is difficult to translate our ideas into sustainable change.

Knowing this, the CESA 6 Literacy Center is offering customized coaching support to ensure your district or school team is able to implement the learning Penny Kittle will provide in her July 20, 2022 workshop, Engage and Empower Adolescents with 4 Essential Studies - Essay Writing, Book Clubs, Poetry, and Digital Composition for Grades 6-12.

Let us help you to bring Penny's teaching to life in your classroom!

Our "Extend the Learning" PD package includes Penny Kittle's workshop for up to three team members plus follow-up in-district coaching support customized for your school(s) and facilitated by a CESA 6 Literacy Consultant.

Penny’s July 20th Workshop Description:

We must rescue teaching from standardization and formula and reclaim creativity: the heart and life of all writing. This essential move develops students’ agency, independence, and decision-making skills as readers, writers, and creators. It ignites curiosity and engagement at every grade level. We have the power to transform students’ relationship with literacy—and truly prepare them for the more demanding work of college.

Key objectives of this day:

  • Explore strategies to increase the volume of writing and revision through daily practices across genre

  • Analyze the moves and possibilities writers use to craft texts

  • Learn to use teacher modeling to demonstrate the qualities of effective writing

  • Understand the superpower of side-by-side feedback in conferences
