Revisiting the 2020 ELA Standards: Support for Implementation

January 13, 2022 | February 1, 2022 | March 2, 2022 | April 6, 2022

3:30 PM - 4:45 PM

In June 2020, Wisconsin’s Standards for English Language Arts (ELA) were updated. Literacy leaders who attend this virtual, multi-session learning experience will:

1) Prioritize advancing educational equity through ELA instruction

2) Understand Wisconsin’s 2020 Shifts for ELA, which include ideas that guide material selection, instructional strategies, and assessment

3) Understand the most significant changes in the content of Wisconsin’s Standards for ELA

4) Experiment with a process for determining how existing instructional materials (purchased or locally designed) meet the 2020 standards and how they may need to be supplemented

5) Create a plan for facilitating local learning about the 2020 standards

INSIDE THE SESSIONS:
SESSION #1:  What’s in the Standards? An overview of the organization of the standards and specific changes in the content of the standards.

SESSION #2:  What’s in the Standards Continued? Grade-level discussion groups to consider implications of changes in the content of the standards (K – 2, 3 – 5, 6 – 8, and 9 – 12).

SESSION #3:  What do we Keep, Start, and Stop? A process for examining standards in the context of curriculum in order to identify priorities for modifying or supplementing existing curriculum.

SESSION #4:  What’s the Plan for Local Learning? Collaborative planning time (with colleagues from the CESA 12 region) for the creation of a local learning plan.
