Teaching Without Breaking a Sweat: Techniques to Handle the Toughest of Situations

This 4-part series facilitated by Chris Peterson, The Parenting Professor, will focus on using Love and Logic® in order to equip our students with the character, compassion, and problem-solving skills essential for becoming good neighbors to all. 

All sessions will be held virtually using Zoom.  Enjoy the comfort of not traveling! Have fun, relax, and be ready to learn how to limit some of the stress of being an educator.

 

Session 1:  Love and Logic 101: Taking the Stress out of Teaching
Who should be tired at the end of the day? The kids! How can we alter our classrooms in a way that limits the stress for educators? Let’s start with the basics.

  • Love allows children to grow through their mistakes.

  • Logic allows children to live with the consequences of their choices.

  • Love and Logic is a way of working with children that puts teachers back in control, teaches children to be responsible, and prepares young people to live in the real world, with its many choices and consequences.

  • Participants will be taken through an interactive, high-energy thrill ride teaching about the techniques and importance of being an empathetic and effective educator.

 

Session 2: On the Spot Behavior: Leading with Love and Logic
I know relationships are key! I get that misbehavior shouldn't be taken personally! But what do I do in the heat of the moment?

  • We'll take a look at some of the most effective strategies that can get us through the toughest of situations while maintaining everyone's dignity.

  • Explore a set of new strategies that will limit stress and up the odds that we help raise responsible kids.

 

Session 3: Taking the Stress out of Parent Conferences...even the contentious ones.
Have you ever dreaded a phone call or conference because you just weren’t sure how it would turn out? In this session, we’ll build the skills and framework to handle the toughest of situations without breaking a sweat and building better relationships at the same time.

  • Explore some ideas and principles that can limit stressful interactions with parents.

  • Develop an understanding of why a parent might be upset.

  • Discover a 5 step generic plan that you can utilize when upset parents do not give you time to plan.

  • Examine more ideas about how to take good care of yourself.

 

Session 4: Supporting Kids with Challenging Pasts
We will explore the monumental task of working with kids who have challenging pasts. We’ll balance theory, research, and strategies to up the odds that we handle the toughest of situations without breaking a sweat.  You will learn powerful insights into:

  • How trauma affects the brain.

  • Why the intense and extremely upsetting behaviors seen in some kids represent attempts to self-protect and survive.

  • The science behind healthy attachment relationships.

  • How to apply Love and Logic strategies so that adults can take good care of themselves while addressing root causes.

ALL POLICIES APPLY UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED IN THE INDIVIDUAL EVENT DETAILS.


Participant Cancellation Policy: You must contact CESA 4 to cancel attendance one week prior to the scheduled event unless otherwise stated in the individual event details. CESA 4 will only provide full refund of registration fees depending on individual circumstances. Refunds depend upon the ability of CESA 4 to cancel any financial obligations created by the registration such as meals, materials, etc. CESA 4 reserves the right to cancel any workshop due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by e-mail or phone if a workshop is cancelled. If a participant is a 'no show' the school will be billed for the registration fee, or loss of the 'free' attendance slot.


Dietary Restrictions: Because of the number of meals served, number of ingredients used, and food product changes from vendors, we cannot guarantee dietary restrictions as indicated in a user's myQuickReg profile will be accommodated. Participants with dietary restrictions such as food allergies should plan to bring their own refreshments.


Weather Conditions: If a workshop has been cancelled due to weather conditions, every effort will be made to reschedule the workshop. If weather conditions are questionable, please call CESA 4 Voice Mail at (608) 786-4800; Toll Free (800) 514-3075. A message will be posted regarding workshop weather cancellations.
