THIS EVENT IS FULL

This two-day SIOP® intensive training workshop will provide teachers with a practical approach of sheltered instruction for facilitating high quality instruction for ELLs in content area teaching. The approach is based on current knowledge and research-based practices promoting learning with ELLs, but is beneficial for ALL students in the classroom. Participants will develop a basic understanding of sheltered instruction and will learn the eight critical components of effective sheltered instruction that can easily fit into the framework of your district curriculum.

In this workshop, teachers will have an opportunity to write specific language and content objectives, observe effective SIOP classes at various grade levels, learn instructional ideas and techniques that work, and participate in cooperative learning activities that are engaging, interactive, and fun. Teachers will learn the SIOP® components of Preparing Lessons, Building Background Knowledge, Providing Comprehensible Input, Using Strategies, Developing Interactive Activities, Practicing and Applying Content Knowledge, Delivering Lessons, and Reviewing & Assessing. Training includes a complete binder of materials and a an individual copy of the text, Making Content Comprehensible for English Learners: The SIOP® Model with CD-ROM of video vignettes of school instruction incorporating the eight SIOP® components.
