Gain and Enhance Strategies to Incorporate into Literacy Instruction

Presenter: Latricia Johnson

Price: $200

Description: Science of Reading? Balanced Literacy? Experts agree that students need explicit and systematic instruction in reading foundational skills. Children also need joyful opportunities for the application and transfer of those skills into high-quality, authentic literature. Join other educators as we learn and reflect together. We will gather to examine each of the six shifts and discuss the impact of each. These sessions will have a synchronous and asynchronous component.

Shift 1: Rethinking How Reading Comprehension Begins
Shift 2: Recommitting to Phonemic Awareness Instruction
Shift 3: Reimagining the Way We Teach Phonics
Shift 4: Revising High-Frequency Word Instruction
Shift 5: Reinventing the Ways We Use MSV (3 Cueing Systems)
Shift 6: Reconsidering Texts for Beginning Readers

The goal of the sessions will be to engage educators in collaborative conversations to build their knowledge of Foundational Literacy and to gain/enhance key strategies to incorporate into literacy instruction.

Included is Shifting the Balance: 6 Ways to Bring the Science of Reading into the Balanced Literacy Classroom by Jan Burkins and Kari Yates.
