Mentoring Essentials serves as foundational mentor training for Beginning Teacher mentors as defined in Wis. Administrative Code sec. PI 34. WI teacher mentors are licensed educators who are trained to provide support and assistance to beginning teachers. This training provides foundational qualifications to ensure mentors have the understanding, skills, and abilities to provide support.

Mentoring Essentials outcomes:

  • Explain the role of mentor and elements of a successful mentoring relationship.
  • Explain how quality mentoring and induction supports beginning teacher development and retention.
  • Assess beginning teacher needs and plan for timely support.
  • Identify key mentor supports related to the EducatorEffectiveness System.

Monthly virtual, synchronous coaching sessions will also be held October-May for all who participated in the August or September in-person event.

Audience: Mentors nominated by a district or a teacher with an interest in expanding best practices and the profession of teaching through professional development and coaching.

Cost for the 8-session series (includes lunch for in-person sessions):
