Looking for a research-validated, history-proven, high-impact reading intervention for students in grades K-3? Look no further, except maybe in your closet or storage area. There’s a chance you have a kit of Reading Mastery hiding somewhere. If you’ve never been trained to deliver this structured literacy intervention with spirit and precision, now is your chance. Join experienced Reading Mastery trainer and coach Amy McGovern at CESA 9 for a highly engaging and interactive day-long workshop on the many details of the lowest two levels of Reading Mastery. This session will focus on Reading Mastery Classic or Signature (Classic levels I and II/Fast Cycle or Signature grades K and 1). Information on the newest Reading Mastery edition called Transformation will be provided, though we will not train on this version during this workshop.

What is Reading Mastery? Check out this video called “Why is Reading So Hard?”

Who are the lowest two levels appropriate for? Students in K-3 who need explicit, systematic phonics instruction with coordinated decodable text and students who are confused about how to associate letters to their sounds. The print in Reading Mastery acts as a temporary visual scaffold that supports students in their letter/sound blending skills.

What you will learn in this training:

  • How to assess students to find the appropriate starting point.
  • How to deliver a high-impact lesson. (But it’s scripted, don’t I just read the script? NOPE..that’s a start, but it’s not enough.)
  • High-impact correction procedures that can be applied to all kinds of reading instruction.
  • Teaching techniques that get all students to actively engage in their learning.

Audience: K-3 gen ed teachers, Title I teachers, EL teachers, special education teachers, reading interventionists, reading specialists, literacy coaches
