9:00 AM - 12:45 PM - 4K Curriculum Mapping
Overview

With the current adoption of new K-12 standards for mathematics, English language arts, and the development of new standards for social studies and science underway, it is critical that those teaching children prior to Kindergarten and after twelfth grade are aware of the new expectations students need to start and finish their K-12 schooling with. In addition to understanding these expectations, districts are working to organize this work into curriculum maps that will assist in developing a progression from grade level to grade level of the knowledge and skills taught. Once a progression of knowledge and skills has been identified, then districts will be ready to start using common assessments to determine if expectations are met and what instructional strategies and techniques should be used based on this data. Learn how to unpack standards to identify specific knowledge and skills student should know. Learn how to develop a curriculum map that can be compared to the maps of Kindergarten classes to determine gaps and levels of Blooms taxonomy that students should meet at which point throughout a year based on the Wisconsin standards and the new Common Core. Also, understand how to develop a curriculum map for early childhood so that you can begin a collaborative process with other teachers to maximize student learning in your classroom The afternoon of this meeting will be a 4K Coordinator meeting. This will be a networking session for the coordinators to talk about questions, issues that are arising and to share the interesting ways their district is offering 4yK. We will talk about what districts are doing for their Outreach activities, share ideas and problem solve.
