This two-day training is in response to a Legislative Bill which permits the temporary teacher certification of individuals with Associate or Bachelor Degrees in areas other than education. The training is designed to prepare prospective substitute teachers with basic information about the substitute's role.  Participants who complete the training and practice will receive a certificate of completion.  During the workshop, participants will be guided through the Department of Public Instruction's application process for the Substitute Teacher License.  By the end of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and understand the professional responsibilities and roles of the substitute teacher
  • Identify and demonstrate successful classroom organization, management, and behavioral strategies
  • Understand the importance of student safety
  • Prepare and conduct a lesson
  • Understand the legal responsibilities of a substitute teacher
  • Use and demonstrate appropriate communication protocols and procedures during the school day

Audience:  Participants with Associate or Bachelor Degrees in areas other than education

Event Cost:  $200 per registrant, includes packaged breakfast options.  Lunch is on your own.


Participant Cancellation Policy: You must contact CESA #4 to cancel attendance one week prior to the scheduled event, unless otherwise stated in the event details. CESA #4 will only provide full refund of registration fees depending on individual circumstances. Refunds depend upon the ability of CESA #4 to cancel any financial obligations created by the registration such as meals, materials, etc. CESA #4 reserves the right to cancel any workshop due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by e-mail or phone if a workshop is cancelled. If a participant is a 'no show' the school will be billed for the registration fee, or loss of the 'free' attendance slot.

Weather Conditions: If a workshop has been cancelled due to weather conditions, every effort will be made to reschedule the workshop. If weather conditions are questionable, please call CESA #4 Voice Mail at (608) 786-4800; Toll Free (800) 514-3075. A message will be posted regarding workshop weather cancellations.

Dietary Restrictions: CESA #4 will make every attempt to accommodate dietary restrictrions as noted in a user's MyQuickReg profile; however, we encourage anyone with a dietary restriction or preference to bring food items in case the event menu cannot fully accommodate.
