Description
Turning data into information that educators can act on quickly and easily is a priority for principals, administrators, and DPI alike. As part of DPI’s ongoing effort to support data use and research that improves educational outcomes, the Department of Public Instruction purchased a suite of tools—called business intelligence (BI) tools—that will change the way DPI reports data to schools and districts; and the way school and district staff, as well as the public, can access data about Wisconsin public schools.

We invite you to learn more about this exciting new statewide reporting system.  This session will include a demonstration of the BI Tool’s reporting dashboard. We’ll also cover your questions, including:

  • What exactly is a BI tool? Will we have to pay to use the BI tool? Is the BI tool the same as the statewide student information system (SSIS)? What does DPI’s vision for data mean for my district?

Additional Questions Covered Include:

  • What is Wisconsin’s Vision for Increased Student Learning?
  • What are they, and how is Wisconsin using new Guiding Principles for Teaching and Learning to inform this vision and system?
  • How do Common Core State Standards (CCSS), and especially Disciplinary Literacy, fit within this larger educational system designed to ensure every student learns?
  • How is CCSS implementation assisted by having an RtI System in place?
  • How does Wisconsin’s approach to balanced assessment, and the state’s plans for new assessments help us understand students’ unique needs?
  • How will the state’s new dashboard and reporting system, the Wisconsin Information System for Education (WISEdash) help to harness student data and turn it into information that teachers and administrators can act on quickly and easily to improve student learning as it replaces WINNS?
