High-quality math instruction engages students as doers of mathematics. Students make sense of problems, use tools appropriately, reason abstractly and quantitatively, construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others, look for regularity in repeated reasoning, attend to precision, make use of structure, and model with mathematics.
The session “Teaching Math at a Distance” celebrates the achievements of 2020-2021 math instruction and furthers the capacity of educators to provide high-quality math instruction in the virtual setting. Teachers will continue to develop their capacity to promote student thinking, facilitate common classroom routines online, and facilitate mathematical discussion through rich mathematics tasks.
