Description:

This Arts PLC Series is an opportunity for teachers in the Arts to connect with colleagues across districts, share ideas and resources, and network to build capacity and collaborate. Julie Palkowski, DPI Arts Consultant, will facilitate sharing and offer insights into some of the latest and greatest learning and resources from the state level.

Two sessions will be held after school, with the culminating day-long event in June. See details below and join us to reinvigorate after a long year!

 

Wednesday, April 21, 2021 3:45pm- 5pm Arts Ed. and Technology
This session will explore effective uses of technology in the arts classroom. Julie Palkowski, WI DPI Arts and Creativity Education Consultant will highlight tools that engage, inform, and allow for creative expression in the arts. Participants are encouraged to bring one technology tool idea that they may have used in the arts classroom to share at the session.

 

Monday, May 24, 2021 3:45pm – 5pm Arts Ed. and Assessment
Dive into multiple formative assessment tools. Julie Palkowski, WI DPI Arts and Creativity Education Consultant will facilitate group sharing of engaging assessment ideas from the group. Participants are encouraged to bring one formative assessment idea that they have used in their arts classroom to share at the session.

 

Thursday, June 10, 2021 Arts Ed PLC
Participants will be engaged in a full day of arts education sessions, chosen from the list online – https://dpi.wi.gov/fine-arts/pd/plc. Register online through CESA 2 and vote for your choices of sessions for the Arts Ed PLC. The final schedule of sessions will be emailed to participants by Monday, June 7, 2021 at 4pm.

The arts education choices for participants to choose from include:

  • Action Research
  • Arts Integration
  • Career Readiness
  • Gifted and Talented
  • Inclusive Practices
  • 21st Century Skills
  • Watch Party (Arts Education video viewing followed by discussion.)

The PLC day will explore the participants’ top choices. Activities for the day will also include fun engaging arts activities, as well as discussion time of application to the arts classroom.

 

 

About the Presenters:

Mary Jo Ziegler has worked in diverse educational settings for over 30 years. The first 15 years of her career were spent in classrooms teaching grades 2-8. After earning an M.S. in Reading, she moved into an instructional coaching and intervention role at Sherman Middle School in Madison, Wisconsin. A second Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership led to roles as district instructional resource teacher, a literacy coordinator, PK-12 director of instruction, and DPI consultant. Across the years, MJ has worked to support educators as they design engaging and effective learning opportunities that motivate achievement by building routines and scaffolds to guide students through successful learning experiences.

 

 

 

 

Dr. Julie A. Palkowski is the Fine Arts and Creativity Education Consultant for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. She has previously served as an arts administrator with school districts in Rockford, Illinois and Madison, Wisconsin. In her current position, she is a liaison to various boards including the Wisconsin School Music Association, Wisconsin Art Education Association, the Alliance for Wisconsin Theatre Education, and the Wisconsin Dance Council. Julie has facilitated arts education sessions focused on pedagogy, program development, arts integration, disciplinary literacy in the arts, and technology throughout Wisconsin.

 

 


Cancellation Policy: Registered participants will receive a refund if they cancel prior to 3 working days before an event, minus any material costs that have already been incurred. Cancellations must either be made on MyQuickReg or by emailing cancel@cesa2.org. Because of our commitment to the presenter and the food vendor, participants who cancel less than 3 working days prior to the event or who do not attend the event, will be billed the full fee. CESA 2 reserves the right to cancel any event. Registered participants will be notified via phone and email if a cancellation occurs and will receive a full refund. 

Inclement Weather Policy: Every effort will be made to hold an event. CESA 2 will notify participants via email as soon as possible if an event has been cancelled due to weather conditions.

CESA 2 does not assume liability for adverse reactions to food consumed or items one may come into contact with while eating at a CESA 2 event. By registering for an event with CESA 2, participants agree to grant to CESA 2 and its authorized representatives permission to record digital photos and/or video, of their participation. Participants further agree that any or all of the material photographed may be used, in any form, as part of any future publications, brochure, or other printed materials used to promote CESA 2, and further that such use shall be without payment of fees, royalties, special credit or other compensation. In-Person Events: Restrictions on our in-person events due to COVID-19 have been lifted. We will be responsive to what's happening within our communities, and guidelines from the CDC and local health agencies for future offerings and will update guidelines when necessary.
