Virtual Workshop: Optimizing the Power of Interactive Read Aloud & Exploring Wordless Picture Books in Pre-K and 4K
Two and a half-hour virtual workshop

In many early childhood and primary classrooms, read-alouds often serve as the foundation of literacy instruction and learning.  While a wealth of research supports the importance of reading aloud to learners, research also demonstrates that the most effective read alouds are those in which learners are actively involved in thinking and talking about multiple aspects of the text before, during, and after reading, rather than passively listening to a story.

If you’re looking for ways in which you can maximize the potential of read alouds in your classroom, this workshop offering focused on Interactive Read Alouds may be the perfect match for you!

Throughout this workshop, we will explore what an Interactive Read Aloud is, and how we can use Interactive Read Alouds at the Pre-K level to support our young learners in developing their understanding of, appreciation of, and strategies for thinking and talking about texts.  During our day together, we will explore the “nuts and bolts” of Interactive Read Alouds, including how to select texts for Interactive Read Alouds at the Pre-K level, the structure of an Interactive Read Aloud, and the planning process.  You will be introduced to a wealth of brand-new (or old but good) high-quality picture books that you can use within your Pre-K classroom to support engagement and literacy learning with your learners!  A special emphasis will also center on wordless picture books and the powerful literacy learning that they can be used to support.

Cost: $100 per person includes a 2 1/2 hour pre-recorded workshop and materials.
Payment via debit/credit card or a purchase order is required at the time of registration.

Access: Two weeks of access to this workshop recording.  Receive the recording immediately upon payment or schedule when to receive access to the recording.

Virtual Workshop: Tapping the Power of Shared Reading in Pre-K and 4K
Two and a half-hour virtual workshop

While reading aloud to students is a mainstay in many Pre-K classrooms, Shared Reading tends to be an untapped source of literacy learning for many Pre-K learners.  While much has been written about Shared Reading for kindergarten and first-grade learners, sometimes Pre-K teachers are left wondering:

  • Is Shared Reading appropriate for Pre-K?
  • What could Shared Reading look like / sound like / feel like with my young learners?

If you are interested in learning how to tap the power of Shared Reading in Pre-K, this workshop may be for you!

This workshop dives into the “nuts and bolts” of Shared Reading, including how to select texts for Shared Reading, the structure of Shared Reading (across multiple days), and the planning process. Shared Reading at the Pre-K level can support our young learners in several ways, including:

  • Concepts of print
  • Phonological awareness
  • Letter / sound knowledge
  • Vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and more!

Perhaps most importantly, Shared Reading can support the development of a literacy-rich community of readers and thinkers.

Cost: $100 per person includes a 2 1/2 hour pre-recorded workshop and materials.
Payment via debit/credit card or a purchase order is required at the time of registration.

Virtual Workshop: Using Emergent Storybook Reading in Pre-K to Support Young Readers
Two and a half-hour virtual workshop

⇒ Have you ever wondered how you can naturally and appropriately support a love of reading with your young learners, even before they may be reading conventionally?

⇒ Are you wondering how you can best support your learners’ identities as readers, even before they may know their letters and/or sounds?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, this workshop may be the perfect fit for you!  This workshop will immerse you in the world of Emergent Storybook Reading, based on the work of renowned researcher, Elizabeth Sulzby.
