PRESENTER:  Dr. Andrea Hellman

Dr. Andrea B. Hellman, the author of The 6 Principles Quick Guide For Remote Teaching of K-12 English Learners, is a lifelong TESOL educator, who has taught English learners in a variety of settings from early childhood to workplace education. Andrea has twenty years of experience developing courses for online and blended instruction for English learners and for their teachers, and directs a National Professional Development project for in-service teachers at Missouri State University, where she is an associate professor in the Department of English. 

 

Andrea was a member of the writing team of TESOL’s The 6 Principles for Exemplary Teaching of English Learners: Grades K-12; co-authored The 6 Principles for Exemplary Teaching of English Learners: Adult Education and Workforce Development, and is a Hungarian-English bilingual and an adult immigrant to the United States.

 

OBJECTIVES

  • Match the form of remote teaching to EL families’ capabilities and preferences

  • Create conditions for attendance and participation

  • Design high-quality lessons for remote teaching

  • Embed language targets and language practice into remote instruction

  • Streamline and unify approaches for impact through teacher collaboration

Cancellation Policy:

Any registration cancellation must be received at least 8 business days before event in order for a full conference fee refund to be issued (full refunds do not include service fees. Service fees are nonrefundable).Registration cancellations received 1-7 business days before an event, a refund, minus $50 for each participant, will be issued. Persons who are registered, but not in attendance on the day of the session ("no call, no show") will be charged the full registration fee. CESA 6 reserves the right to cancel any session due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by email if a cancellation occurs.
