Description:

Learn and apply authentic Spanish literacy methods to your instruction in your dual language or bilingual program. Participants will learn the strategies of Lotta Lara and Dictado, as well as the Literacy Club intervention to use with multilingual students in a dual language or bilingual program.

Lotta Lara was developed by Biliteracy Squared and is used to develop comprehension, oracy, reading fluency, and biliteracy. The Dictado is a writing method intended for use in Spanish literacy and literacy-based English Language Development, works to refine language arts skills, and develop student's metalanguage skills. The Literacy Club is a Tier 2 or intermediate intervention for small groups of language learners who struggle with literacy, and it has been field-tested in English as an additional language (EAL) and dual language/bilingual contexts.

Participants should bring literacy materials that they are currently using to the session. They will be able to create their own dictados and plan for Lotta Lara so that they can use these components right away in their own classrooms. Participants will also take part in an interactive demonstration lesson for Literacy Club. The first day will cover Lotta Lara and Dictado, with the second day focusing on the Literacy Club.

This session will reference The Literacy Club: Effective Instruction and Intervention for Linguistically Diverse Learners by Dr. Kathy Henn-Reinke and Xee Yang. Participants can purchase their own copy from Caslon or Amazon in advance of the session.

Cost:  $75
