OBJECTIVES:

Participants will:

  • Explore the fundamentals, research, and rationale which provide a foundation for each instructional context at the Pre-K level
  • Examine factors to consider when selecting texts for each instructional context at the Pre-K level
  • Understand the format / structure of a multi-day approach using each instructional context at the Pre-K level
  • Experience the facilitation of sessions for each instructional context at the Pre-K level
  • Explore and engage in a planning process for each instructional context at the Pre-K level
  • Consider how a core text can serve as a bridge between the 4K and 5K classrooms
  • Contemplate how to support young learners as they read on their own

WHAT SHOULD PARTICIPANTS HAVE AVAILABLE?

March 12th - Using Emergent Storybook Reading:

  • One Emergent Storybook (click here for suggestions)
  • The Fountas & Pinnell Literacy Continuum (PK-8) (2017) or Literacy Beginnings (2018) by Fountas & Pinnell

April 9th Tapping the Power of Shared Reading in Pre-K:

  • One text that you could envision using for Shared Reading at the Pre-K level (this could be a poem, song, chant, or book)
  • The Fountas & Pinnell Literacy Continuum (PK-8) (2017) or Literacy Beginnings (2018) by Fountas & Pinnell

May 7th - Optimizing the Power of Interactive Read-Aloud and Wordless Picture Books in Pre-K

  • Three picture books that you would read to learners in your Pre-K classroom (if you have a wordless picture book, please try to bring one with you, as we will have a special focus on wordless picture books)

Please note, these resources are not required, but may serve as helpful references throughout each of the workshops.


FEES AND OPTIONS FOR PARTICIPATION - ALL THREE WORKSHOPS:

  • ($245) Participate virtually in the live workshops; or,
  • ($230) Purchase the workshop recordings to view at your convenience with one-week access

 

CESA 6 CANCELLATION POLICY

Any registration cancellation must be received at least 8 business days prior to the start of the series in order for a full refund to be issued. Registration cancellations received 1-7 business days prior to the series start, a refund will be issued minus $50 per participant.  No refunds will be given for persons who are registered, but not in attendance on the day of any session. CESA 6 reserves the right to cancel an event due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by email if a cancellation occurs.

CESA 6 Literacy Center will record each event. This recording will only be shared with you, your fellow workshop attendees, and those who purchase the workshop recordings for one week. Your recorded image and audio will not be used in any other way.

These events will be recorded. Recordings are housed in the secure platform, and will not be shared with non-registrants. 

Accessing a Virtual Workshop 

Logging in and participating in an online virtual workshop is easy. A series of emails will be sent to the address you provide when you register. You will receive a registration confirmation of your enrollment via email.  We will also email you and provide information and a link to access the secure virtual workshop site.
