This full day workshop will provide a comprehensive description of WDPI’s Initial Guidance for Implementing Wisconsin’s revised SLD rule (effective December 10, 2010). Using a power point presentation, discussion, activities and informational handouts, participants will extensively review:

  • The three criteria for SLD eligibility: 1) inadequate achievement, 2) insufficient progress, and 3) exclusionary factors,
  • IEP team evaluation documentation requirements, and
  • Data collection activities associated with the new SLD rule.

The workshop will also include discussion of initial and reevaluation to determine SLD, application of the SLD rule when a child has speech-language concerns or is very young, and how the sunset of the significant discrepancy method will affect IEP team evaluations for SLD. Participants will receive the information and support materials they need to implement the SLD rule consistent with legal requirements.

*Participants are encouraged to review the Initial Guidance materials prior to the workshop. These materials are posted on the WDPI website at http://www.dpi.wi.gov/sped/ld.html
