The Academy of Foundational Literacy - Summer Series (Rms 1/2)

The Academy of Foundational Literacy is a comprehensive, curriculum-neutral training for PK-2 teachers or those
interventionists who work with struggling readers. This course is designed to empower primary and intervention
teachers to make informed instructional decisions about early literacy practices.

Each session will build a teacher’s capacity to:

• Develop a knowledge base that empowers them to make informed assessment and instructional decisions
• Understand the progression of skills that lead to grade-level proficiency
• Design high-impact, differentiated lessons to meet the needs of all learners

Course Information: Assessment practices and instructional strategies related to each topic are embedded within each course.

• COURSE 1: How Reading Develops and the Role of Oral Language
• COURSE 2: Phonological & Phonemic Awareness
• COURSE 3: Phonics & Word Recognition
• COURSE 4: Vocabulary & Comprehension

Audience: PK-2 grade teachers, special education teachers, interventionists, reading specialists, literacy coaches

Cost for the series (lunch will be provided): $400 for CESA 9 School Improvement members
           $500 for non-CESA 9 School Improvement Members
