Description: Educators at schools are asking, "How do I properly address the needs of our Newcomers?" The focus of this webinar is to describe the range of Newcomers (from never schooled to highly schooled in their countries) and how instruction, social-emotional strategies, and structural elements can address their specific needs both virtually and face to face.

This session includes both a synchronous webinar and asynchronous module along with an optional one on one coaching session with Dr. Rivas.

In this 2-hour session, participants will include:

1) an introduction to strategies and techniques to scaffold instruction throughout a lesson;
2) samples of words, phrases, sentence frames to teach before, during and after instruction;
3) language tools for students; and
4) ways of forming partnerships and teams, and language structures to ensure learning and the development of social and emotional skills

Cost: $40 for participants in the CESA 2 L&C Network or Title III, $89 per person for all others
