Formative assessment strategies are helpful during the learning and instructional process, providing feedback to both instructors and students that allows for adjustment of ongoing teaching and learning practices.

Assessment in online learning contexts may differ from assessment in face-to-face contexts, mainly due to the asynchronous nature of student and instructor interactions.

Two interactive workshops will provide an overview of formative assessment principles, design, and strategies for online and blended learning environments.

  • Session #1 Participants will have an opportunity to engage in the discussion of formative assessments and related strategies as they apply to their own classroom.
  • Session #2 Participants will apply learning targets to assessment design, identify appropriate digital tools for their classroom purposes, and develop usable formative assessment using design principles in a digital format.

Presenters: Ellen Nelson, CESA #12 Educational Consultant & Mary Maderich, CESA #12 Educational Technology Specialist
