Presenter: Mary Jo Ziegler and Kim Stieber-White

Cost: $250 per individual for entire series, $600 for team of 3 (email phil.anderson@cesa2.org for this pricing). Lunch NOT included in-person (participants will need to bring their own lunch).

Description: District teams will work collaboratively to generate curricular units that use principles of Universal Design, Understanding by Design, and Culturally Responsive Practices. The goal of this 2-day series is to provide educators with the tools necessary to create a series of units that support the New Wisconsin State Social Studies Standards and offer students windows and mirrors into our society and the world so that they approach life with a lens of social justice and critical literacy.

About the Presenter:

Mary Jo Ziegler has worked in diverse educational settings for over 30 years. The first 15 years of her career were spent in classrooms teaching grades 2-8. After earning an M.S. in Reading, she moved into an instructional coaching and intervention role at Sherman Middle School in Madison, Wisconsin. A second Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership led to roles as district instructional resource teacher, a literacy coordinator, PK-12 director of instruction, and DPI consultant. Across the years, MJ has worked to support educators as they design engaging and effective learning opportunities that motivate achievement by building routines and scaffolds to guide students through successful learning experiences.

 

 

 

Kim Stieber-White joins CESA 2 with deep knowledge and experience in Social Justice, Technology and Literacy.  Her experience in schools spans urban, suburban, and rural settings and includes classroom English Language Arts, Reading Specialist, Library Media Specialist, Technology Integrator, and Instructional Coach.  Kim is in the process of completing a PhD in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis with a focus on Literacy and Equity.

Cancellation Policy: Registered participants will receive a refund if they cancel prior to 3 working days before an event, minus any material costs that have already been incurred. Cancellations must either be made on MyQuickReg or by emailing cancel@cesa2.org. Because of our commitment to the presenter and the food vendor, participants who cancel less than 3 working days prior to the event or who do not attend the event, will be billed the full fee. CESA 2 reserves the right to cancel any event. Registered participants will be notified via phone and email if a cancellation occurs and will receive a full refund. 

Inclement Weather Policy: Every effort will be made to hold an event. CESA 2 will notify participants via email as soon as possible if an event has been cancelled due to weather conditions.

Disclaimer: CESA 2 will do its best to accommodate general dietary requests; if your dietary need is very specific or severe, you may want to bring your own lunch to ensure your comfort and health. CESA 2 does not assume liability for adverse reactions to food consumed or items one may come into contact with while eating at a CESA 2 event. In-Person Events: Restrictions on our in-person events due to COVID-19 have been lifted. We will be responsive to what's happening within our communities, and guidelines from the CDC and local health agencies for future offerings and will update guidelines when necessary.
