Creating and Using Individual Learning Plans( ILPs) to guide instruction with a focus on student language and learning targets

Presenter: Audrey Lesondak

Description: Knowing the letters and numbers associated with English Learners (ELs) Individual Learning Plans is more than just minding your P's and Q's. in this 2-part virtual workshop, participants will learn how to write Individual Learning Plans (ILPs). ILPs encapsule many of the legal requirements for serving ELs. They also serve as the foundation for setting goals that lead to effective student progress in learning both language and academic content. In this workshop:

Participants will know:

  • The purpose of Individual learning plans (ILPs)
  • The critical elements of the ILPs
  • How ILPs integrate ACCESS test score data and other student data to establish clear student language-based learning goals
  • How to use classroom-based assessment practices to personalize student learning.

Participants will be able:

  • To create ILPs addressing the four language domains of Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening (SWIRL) for students
  • To identify language and learning goals within lessons and applicable scaffolding strategies that align with ILP descriptors and are based on students’ specific needs
  • To use ILPs to help design SMART Student Learning Objectives for Multilingual Learners (MLs) that connect language and learning.

  • $40 for CESA 2 Title III Consortium Members
  • $89 for all other districts
