PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SERIES: IMPROVING CHILD OUTCOMES
Collecting and recording child outcome data (Indicator #6) is the mechanism and accountability measure used by all states to demonstrate the effectiveness of early childhood special education to the Office of Special Education (OSEP). The Early Childhood Indicator Trainings (see WI EC Indicator 2011-12 flyer) provides the technical and procedural assistance to school districts for collecting and reporting their child outcome data to the state.

This series of professional development workshops “compliments” the Wisconsin Early Childhood Indicator Trainings. The purpose of the series is to assist teachers; in incorporating evidence based practices for improving developmental outcomes for young children with IEP’s into their current practices; and by linking the three child outcomes areas to assessment, writing functional goals, embedding instructional strategies into the daily routine, monitoring progress and involving families.

The Building Blocks Model developed Susan R. Sandall, Ph.D & Ilene S. Schwartz, Ph.D., will be used as the guiding framework throughout the series. Each session topic will correspond to a section from the Second edition of Building Blocks for Teaching Preschoolers with Special Needs.
Recommended (not required) book to purchase for this training: Building Blocks for Teaching Preschoolers with Special Needs, Sandall and Schwartz, Brookes Pub Co; 2nd Edition Paperback/CD, 2008.
