Spring in Wisconsin brings us an opportunity to take remote learning outside! Citizen Science is a practical and fun way to achieve this goal. Students collect data at home and contribute to ongoing research, or create investigations of their own. In this introductory session, we will explore apps that allow students at any grade to log their observations and even identify unknown organisms using "facial" recognition. This session will take an integrated approach, looking at how we can bring in math, art, social studies, physical education and career education. Let's Take it Outside and do some STEM in the outdoors!

Open to any grade level or content area.

Learning outcomes include:

  • Discover citizen science efforts and data apps appropriate for your grade level, PK-12.
  • Explore how to best implement citizen science in to your students' learning, even with little or no internet availability.
  • Connect citizen science activities with Wisconsin Science Standards and other content standards at your grade level.

This session is offered at no cost to those districts purchasing College & Career Readiness LS2 including Abbotsford, Altoona, Bloomer, Bruce, Cadott, Chippewa Falls, Colby, Eleva-Strum, Flambeau, Gilmanton, Greenwood, Lake Holcombe, Loyal, Mondovi, Neillsville, New Auburn, Osseo-Fairchild, Owen-Withee, Regis Catholic Schools, and Spencer.
