Student learning of mathematics depends fundamentally on what happens inside the classroom as teachers and learners interact. Join Mathematics Institute of Wisconsin Mathematics Specialist Eric Kanters for half of the day focusing on developing a deeper understanding of math tasks that promote thinking, reasoning, problem solving, and math talk.

Participants will examine the role teachers play in selecting and  implementing math tasks, with a particular focus on the use of number talks to engage students in mathematical sense making.

Educators will also have the opportunity to network with one another, share resources, and learn about the latest research and resources. Facilitators Amanda Trautt (CESA 12) and Mary Mooney (DPI) will highlight the following topics during our networking session:

  • Wisconsin Mathematics Standards Review Process
  • Teaching Mathematics with an instructional framework (Workshop Model, GRR, LESRA)
  • Resource Sharing and Exploring - OER Materials, 3-Act Tasks, Problems Worth Solving, and  Authentic Tasks
