You have classroom expectations and a classroom management system in place. For most students it works well, yet you have a couple of students who are struggling with their behavior. You know a referral is too premature but you want to help these students with their behavior and academics. In this workshop educators will work through 6 behavior interventions that will help reduce the behavior and be able to collect baseline data for future reference. These are Tier I interventions.
The 6 interventions are from the book Interventions: Evidence-Based Behavioral Strategies for Individual Students by Randy Sprick, Ph.D., founder of Safe and Civil Schools. This book will be provided to the first 15 districts that register.
These early interventions:
• Have been shown to be effective based on multiple studies. They are the easiest interventions to implement
A. Planned Discussion
B. Academic Assistance
C. Goal Setting
D. Data Collection and Debriefing
E. Increasing Positive Interactions
F. STOIC Analysis and Intervention
• Can be implemented without needing highly specialized training. Interventions are presented in the order of implementation complexity
• Becomes an essential tool in the teacher’s behavioral tool kit
• Are implemented prior to seeking help from either a school team or an interventionist unless the student’s behavior is so physically dangerous or severely disruptive that seeking special assistance in a Code Red emergency is necessary.
