Universal Design for Learning in the Cloud!

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is considered best practice for creating methods, materials, and assessments that are accessible to all learners, regardless of variability. The goal of UDL is to develop expert learners: students that are purposeful and motivated, resourceful and knowledgeable, and strategic and goal-directed. Self-differentiation, self-regulation, and self-expression are all critical skills for students to learn, particularly in online learning environments. This session will explore how to implement the principles of UDL to improve learning outcomes for all students in the cloud. Bring your phone, laptop, or tablet to dive into how to use UDL best practices and tech tools that engage your students and help them experience deep learning.

Agenda

  • Variability & Barriers - Increasing accessibility in online environments
  • The UDL Guidelines - Explore the principals, guidelines, and checkpoints of UDL
  • Engagement - Foster motivation, persistence,  and self-reg in the cloud
  • Representation - Improving understanding and comprehension with tech tools
  • Action & Expression - Video, infographics, and other tools for self-expression
