High school teachers are tasked with an important challenge: teach our youth how to be powerful writers, access complex texts, effectively use discourse and academic language, and justify their reasoning using evidence…all while fostering personal growth and development. That is significant! Learn how implementing the workshop model in your ELA classroom can help support your learners in accomplishing all of the above. The ELA workshop addresses methods for supporting learners through whole group, small group, and individual instructional opportunities in order to meet the diverse needs of all learners.

FACILITATOR:

Heather Anderson

CESA 6 Literacy Consultant

DAY 1:

Discuss the Gradual Release of Responsibility within the workshop model, establish norms and routines, discuss collaborative strategies and discourse, begin to explore what the “other students” are doing.

DAY 2 (optional):

Dive deeper into norms and routines within YOUR classroom structure and develop language frames for students to communicate effectively within your classroom.  You will be supported as you begin unit planning using the workshop model. You will apply Day1 learning to planning.

THIS WORKSHOP IS A GOOD FIT FOR 9th-12th grade ELA teachers interested in implementing or enhancing the workshop model as well as leadership team members.
