9:00-11:30: AAC 2.0- Review and Continued Discussion on Practical AAC Organization and Implementation Across School Activities
- Review of basic foundational principles on use of core vocabulary within augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
- Ongoing discussion on how to support AAC implementation for student communication participation across daily school activities with an emphasis on functional core word use
- Focus on practical strategies to model and teach core language, create communication opportunities, and set student expectations for students who use AAC
11:30 - 12:15 Lunch
12:15-2:30: Supporting Communication Development for Emerging Communicators with Complex Access- Collaboration Across Disciplines: OT, PT, ST, and VI
- Discussion of the crucial insights and roles that OTs, PTs, and VI related service staff contribute to support total communication development for students with complex communication needs- such as orthopedic, muscular coordination, sensory, and/or visual impairments
- Exploration of emergent communicator access methods, AAC options, and teaching strategies that can support laying foundational skills to support expanding communication
Target audience: SLP's, paraprofessionals, and Special Ed. teachers are encouraged to attend along with your district OT. PT, or VI teacher. Teamwork!
