Presenters: Diane Jensen, Robin Rivas, Mary Jo Ziegler

Description: This three day series will integrate Literacy strategies and practices that support diverse learners in a workshop model. Participants will collaborate around the Wisconsin State Standards for English Language Arts and consider how to equitably meet the needs of all students including English learners and students with IEP’s. Incorporating the Universal Design Framework, educators will learn and apply strategies to K-10 Literacy instruction. Each session will be an opportunity to reflect on current practice, analyze formative data, and consider next step possibilities for equitable continuous improvement of effective Literacy Instruction.

Cost: $450

About the Presenters:

Diane Jensen has over 30 years of teaching experience as a middle and high school special education teacher, instructional coach, and most recently as a 5th grade general education teacher. The majority of Diane’s career was at Monona Grove High School as a special education teacher and instructional coach with an emphasis on college and career readiness skills, differentiation, and effective instructional practices. This is Diane’s 5th year working exclusively with teachers via professional development and on-site coaching experiences.

Robin Rivas has worked as a teacher and administrator for 34 years with culturally and linguistically diverse populations. Robin has also consulted in the areas of program development and professional learning and taught future educators at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.

Mary Jo Ziegler has worked in diverse educational settings for over 30 years. The first 15 years of her career were spent in classrooms teaching grades 2-8. After earning an M.S. in Reading, she moved into an instructional coaching and intervention role at Sherman Middle School in Madison, Wisconsin. A second Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership led to roles as district instructional resource teacher, a literacy coordinator, PK-12 director of instruction, and DPI consultant. Across the years, MJ has worked to support educators as they design engaging and effective learning opportunities that motivate achievement by building routines and scaffolds to guide students through successful learning experiences.

Note: If you are a nursing mother, please be sure to include that in the notes of your registration. We have a private room available for nursing mothers, which must be reserved. The key can be obtained from Emily at the front desk when you arrive.

It's that time of the year where the unpredictable weather outdoors makes our training rooms either too cold or too warm. Training room temperatures are controlled offsite and often take time before the adjustment is noticed. We suggest bringing a sweater, wearing close-toed shoes and/or dressing in layers to assure you are as comfortable as possible while at our facility.
