Battle of the Books Grades 4-6 - COMPETITION WILL BEGIN PROMPTLY AT 12:00 NOON

Because of time restraints we are unable to wait for latecomers

DESCRIPTION

The Battle of the Books program is designed to promote a love of reading among our students.  It encourages students to read a variety of books and remember information about the plots, characters, and settings of the books.  Every question asked in a battle is answered by the title and author of the book and takes the form of:  Name the book in which a horse and a boy are stranded on an island.  It is a fun, academic-based competition that has been very successful in school districts throughout the state in encouraging students to read.

CREATING TEAMS

A Battle of the Books team may consist of three members. Each individual school decides on how to create their team.  A team may consist of three students from one grade level or perhaps a combination of grade levels works best for you, that is up to your school.  Each team shall choose a team captain.  Only the team captain will be allowed to say the answers to the questions during the competition.

NOTE:  Each school district team consists of 4 students per team (3 participants & 1 alternate).   THERE IS NO LIMIT TO THE NUMBER OF TEAMS A DISTRICT MAY HAVE PARTICIPATE.

Some schools choose to have alternates prepare with their teams. Alternates who are not replacing one of the original members of the team are permitted to be present during the competition but must not sit with the team or participate verbally or non-verbally.

Schools will need to register their teams no later than April 1, 2020.

Registration Deadline: April 1, 2020       FEE:  $225.00 per team (addional $25 per team not purchased on shared services contract)

LATE Registration: after April 1st each team will be charged an additional $50 fee
