English Learners (ELs) bring significant assets of language and culture to enrich their classrooms and schools, and their backgrounds and experiences inform different educational technology needs. 

Objectives:

  • Learn how the selection of educational technology can best meet the needs of ELs as they learn academic content and at the same time make gains in reaching English proficiency.  

 

  • Explore various free forms of technology that can engage and motivate students while at the same time provide additional linguistic supports. 

 

  • Digital learning resources for beginning ELs will be shared to offer first language scaffolds as students transition to learning in English.

 

Cost: (includes materials, morning snack, and lunch)

CESA 6 Title III Consortium members  - $100 per participant

CESA 6 Immigrant Grant Districts - fee is covered by the grant*

*Up to a total of 6 staff members for specific CESA 6 Language & Culture Center Workshops (Getting Started with English Learners, Successfully Working with Interpreters/Translators, Sheltering Instructions for English Learners: Implementing SIOP, Interpreting ACCESS Score Reports to Guide Instruction & Plan Supports, Creating Individual Language Plans, and Technology to Support ELs)

All other districts, $150 per participant   

 

Teacher Standards
WES4The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies, including the use of technology to encourage children’s development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.
WES6The teacher uses effective verbal and nonverbal communication techniques as well as instructional media and technology to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom.

Cancellation Policy:

Any registration cancellation must be received at least 8 business days before event in order for a full conference fee refund to be issued (full refunds do not include service fees. Service fees are nonrefundable).Registration cancellations received 1-7 business days before an event, a refund, minus $50 for each participant, will be issued. Persons who are registered, but not in attendance on the day of the session ("no call, no show") will be charged the full registration fee. CESA 6 reserves the right to cancel any session due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by email if a cancellation occurs.
