10 Steps to Literacy Equity

Renowned author and speaker Pam Allyn will spend an inspirational and practical afternoon with us to share best practices for how we can close all the gaps for all our students as learners. From building dynamic environments to refreshing curriculum to re-seeing our professional learning to igniting 365 strategy, Pam will take us on a new journey.

In this half-day retreat, Pam will guide us to a powerful way to think about literacy and a new framework for success in this 21st-century era. We can “tame the wild text” as she likes to say by giving every student and teacher robust tools to master the language and the power of stories and ideas.

Developing Linguistically Advantaged Children-Talk Matters

Developing linguistically advantaged children in the classroom is critical to closing the achievement gap, and this begins in Pre-K. Join Scholastic Education's Director of Early Childhood Ernesto Rodriguez for a session on best practices that promote language and social awareness to help promote the readiness of The Whole Child in your classroom. In this session, participants will explore opportunities to engage children in meaningful exchanges throughout the day. This will include activities that promote social competence and social awareness, as well as language and literacy with children in PreK-1. Activities can easily be applied with Families to help empower and engage while yielding higher impact results. Participants will be engaged in conversations and learn best practices that promote:

-Language and Discourse in the classroom and with Families

-Questioning Strategies for use in the classroom and with Families

-Emphasize Language to promote Social Readiness

Q and A with the Experts:

Ernesto and Pam respond to your most pressing wonderings about literacy, our smallest kids, life with literacy and more!
