Implementation of Social Studies Standards Series

Overview:

District social studies teams could participate in any/all of the days in the series.  It is an integration of Year 1 and Year 2 workshops.  This series would be for teacher teams* that are looking to understand the new social studies standards and instructional shifts and engage in creating a guaranteed and viable curriculum using the new standards.

  • Day 1 (Oct. 1): Understanding the Standards and Expectations
    • Digging into standards
    • Understanding the instructional shifts
    • Understanding how they fit with other standards aligned with SS work  (WI Standards for Environmental Literacy & Sustainability and the WI Standards for Information and Technology Literacy)
    • Prioritizing the Standards
  • Day 2 (Oct. 14): WI Standards for Social Studies Implementation: Curriculum Step 1 (Facilitated by DPI)
  • Day 3 (Oct. 29):  WI Standards for Social Studies Implementation: Revitalizing Your K-5 Social Studies Program (Facilitated by DPI)
  • Day 4 (Nov. 14): Unpacking and Bundling of Standards
  • Day 5 (Jan. 21): Inquiry-Based Learning & Disciplinary Literacy in SS
    • Using primary sources
  • Day 6 (Feb. 27): Creating Curriculum Guides/Unit Plans
    • OpenEd Resources 101 and walk-through of OER materials (90 minutes after lunch)
  • Day 7 (March 19):  WI Standards for Social Studies Implementation: Curriculum Step 2 (Facilitated by DPI)

Cost: 
Individuals: $150/day or $1,000 for series
Groups of 4 or more: $100/day or $650 for series
(All registration confirmations will show a price of $150.  Team discounts will be applied at the time of billing).

*Teams: Collaborative teams of social studies teachers.  We also welcome instructional leaders (coaches, administrators, etc.).

Participant Cancellation Policy: You must contact CESA 4 to cancel attendance one week prior to the scheduled event unless otherwise stated in the individual event details. CESA 4 will only provide full refund of registration fees depending on individual circumstances. Refunds depend upon the ability of CESA 4 to cancel any financial obligations created by the registration such as meals, materials, etc. CESA 4 reserves the right to cancel any workshop due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by e-mail or phone if a workshop is cancelled. If a participant is a 'no show' the school will be billed for the registration fee, or loss of the 'free' attendance slot.


Dietary Restrictions: Because of the number of meals served, number of ingredients used, and food product changes from vendors, we cannot guarantee dietary restrictions as indicated in a user's myQuickReg profile will be accommodated. Participants with dietary restrictions such as food allergies should plan to bring their own refreshments.


Weather Conditions: If a workshop has been cancelled due to weather conditions, every effort will be made to reschedule the workshop. If weather conditions are questionable, please call CESA 4 Voice Mail at (608) 786-4800; Toll Free (800) 514-3075. A message will be posted regarding workshop weather cancellations.


Additional Accommodations: If you need an accommodation to participate including interpreter services (sign language or other spoken language) please email the workshop contact to set up these services. A two-week notice is appreciated.
