Presenter: Ron Mirr
Ron Mirr is an independent consultant who lives in Iowa City, Iowa. Most recently, Ron was the Senior Vice President at Scholastic Education where he led Scholastic’s consulting and professional services business for family and community engagement. Since 1993 he has focused his efforts on helping educators build home-school partnerships that improve student achievement. Ron has been a consultant to programs in many different states and internationally on how to engage families in the learning process. He is a co-author of the Family Engagement Assessment—a tool that measures a school’s capacity for developing effective partnerships with families.
Dr. Karen Mapp Workshop Series
Scholastic and Dr. Karen Mapp have created a comprehensive training series that helps educators engage families in meaningful partnerships focused on improving student achievement.
What's Included?
This series of three full-day interactive workshops will equip your team with everything they’ll need to implement a comprehensive family and community engagement plan. All workshops will run from 9:00AM–3:00PM, and a continental breakfast, snacks, and lunch will be included.
• Three training sessions led by expert family engagement practitioners
• Participant guides and interactive activities
• Hands-on strategies that can be implemented immediately
• Yearlong action plan
Who Should Attend?
In order to maximize the impact of the series, teams of five should participate in all three trainings. Your team should include:
• Central office administrators
• Principals
• Teachers
• Family and community representatives
SESSION 1 | October 21, 2019 - This will be a virtual presentation at CESA 5.
Reframing Family Engagement Explore the research that supports the link between family engagement and improved student outcomes.
SESSION 2 | November 7, 2019 - This presentation will be live at CESA 5.
Redesigning Family Engagement Events Deepen your understanding of how to help families practice effective strategies to support children’s learning at home.
SESSION 3 | December 9, 2019 - This will be a virtual presentation at CESA 5.
Engaging Families in Learning throughout the Year Learn how to design and implement family engagement events aligned to student learning goals
You will attend all three sessions at CESA 5 - 626 E. Slifer St. Portage, WI 53901.
The first and third sessions will be virtual presenations, and the second presentation will be live at CESA 5.
Registration Cost: $597 for CESA 5 School Improvement Members for all 3 sessions, $717 for Non-Members for all 3 sessions
