This workshop will include instructional strategies and teacher resources to engage students to become self-directed learners by connecting personal finance standards to college and career readiness. Our day together will include how to incorporate a career-based budgeting project into the curriculum for a high school personal finance (or independent living) course. Student examples will be shared to illustrate the process. Participants will receive all materials needed to implement this project-based learning opportunity into an existing personal finance-related course. Materials will include complete project guidelines, sample student assessments and examples for how to incorporate business partner and parent engagement into the process.
Learning objectives include:
- Participants will be able to understand how to use a high school personal finance course as a method of addressing many key aspects of College and Career Readiness while providing students an opportunity to be self-directed learners.
- Participants will be able to understand ways in which to convey the message of post-secondary planning to parents and students, including access to planning resources as they relate to post-secondary planning and financial literacy.
