CESA 9 developed the Substitute Teacher Training in response to a Legislative Bill which permits the temporary teacher certification of individuals with Associate or Bachelor Degrees in areas other than education. The training is designed to prepare prospective substitute teachers with basic information about the substitute's role. Participants who complete the training and practice will receive a certificate of completion. During the workshop, participants will be guided through the Department of Public Instruction’s application process for the Substitute Teacher License.

Benefits of our two-day training:

· Ability to identify and understand the professional responsibilities and roles of a substitute teacher

· Ability to identify and demonstrate successful classroom organization, management, and behavioral strategies

· Understand the importance of student safety

· Able to prepare and conduct a lesson

· Understand the legal responsibilities of a substitute teacher

· Ability to use and demonstrate appropriate communication protocols and procedures during the school day

COST: $175.00/person for the workshop (this includes lunch & materials). PLEASE NOTE: There is a separate $125 DPI fee when you apply for the Substitute Teacher License at the end of the second day of training (please bring a credit card for this).

Please be sure to have the following when you attend:

  • Laptop and power cord
  • Access to your email (login and password)
  • Copies of college transcripts (Bachelor's or Associate's Degree)
  • Credit card to pay the $125 DPI Substitute Teacher License fee (needed at the end of the second day)
