Are you looking for ways to enhance students’ literacy learning through authentic literacy experiences?

Are you working on aligning instructional practices to ensure collaboration and cohesion at all levels?

If you answered yes to either of the above questions, this workshop is the launching point to begin this process. We will share a vision for lifting students’ literacy learning through effective, authentic experiences in reading, thinking, talking, and writing. Through interactive sessions, participants will learn how multiple instructional contexts must work in unison to develop coherence in the literacy learning of every student across the grades. Join us to create a blueprint for teaching through authentic experiences, exemplifying what it truly means to live a literate life.

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

  • Define your vision and values. Establish a foundation on which to build your instructional goals and a plan. Envision the ideal design for literacy instruction in your classroom. What are your values and vision for the literacy lives of the students you teach?
  • Set your goals. Turning a vision into action requires the process of design that works in a coherent way. Let your core values form the backbone of your decisions, and lead you to set instructional goals that reinforce these values.
  • Get to know your Literacy Classroom. Develop an understanding of the need for and strength of whole-class, small-group, and individualized instruction. Explore considerations for establishing an organized learning environment and building a community of readers.
  • Plan your literacy time. Time for literacy is critical, but finding time to fit it all in can be a challenge. Thoughtful and intentional planning is needed to ensure efficient, engaging, and effective literacy opportunities in your classroom.
  • Classroom-based literacy instruction. Learning deepens when students think, talk, read, and write about authentic texts across many different instructional contexts. Ignite learning with student texts, lessons, and resources to be used during major instructional contexts.
