This course is an introductory course on basic performance assessment concepts and approaches. The course follows the approach of Judith Arter, Jay McTighe, Richard Stiggins and Grant Wiggins in creating a knowledge base for effective performance assessment in the classroom. It will focus on student-involved classroom assessment, including a holistic approach that develops the relationship(s) between standards-based assessment, curriculum, and instruction. The primary focus of the course will be to help each student develop a classroom performance assessment portfolio appropriate for his or her professional situation. The personalized classroom performance assessment course will include research-based, but practical strategies that are highly effective in improving student academic performance. The course will include development of clear instructional targets and their assessment, and a basic knowledge of a variety of assessment methods. Enhancing student motivation and engagement will be a reoccurring theme throughout the course. This course will introduce Response to Intervention and Curriculum Bases Measures as they apply to the regular education classroom.
