Year 2 of the Wisconsin Social Studies Standards will focus on Curriculum Rollout. This year will be a three part series of virtual meetings with Kris McDaniel who will be presenting live from CESA 2.

October 14: WI Standards for Social Studies Implementation: Curriculum Step One

Objectives:

  • Begin or continue work on a K-12 curriculum review and gap analysis to determine where you are at and where you are headed with K-12 social studies in your district,
  • Recognize the importance of the use of quality materials tied to standards, and analyze at least one set of resources using the Quality Resource Guide for Social Studies,
  • Analyze a lesson/unit/course of their own to incorporate inquiry actives through the Roadmap to Inquiry resource and the use of disciplinary literacy techniques for Social Studies, and
  • Review content appendices and the American Indian Studies appendix curated by Wisconsin teach leaders and evaluate their assistance in local curriculum decisions.

October 29: WI Standards for Social Studies Implementation: Revitalizing Your K-5 Social Studies Program

Objectives:

  • Review state and national issues in elementary social studies education,
  • Access current resources (EQ's, content & AIS appendices) for Wisconsin Standards for Social Studies implementation, and analyze them for their usefulness in local K-5 district curriculum work,
  • Analyze the WI Social Studies K-5 Suggested Scope & Sequence to evaluate their use in local curriculum decisions,
  • Understand what K-5 social studies resources are being worked on in the 2019-20 school year,
  • Experience a social studies inquiry lesson for elementary students, and
  • Recognize the importance of the use of quality materials tied to standards, and analyze at least one set of resources using the Quality Resource Guide for Social Studies.

March 19: WI Standards for Social Studies Implementation: Curriculum Step Two

Objectivs to be determined after Days 1 and 2

This workshop is offered at no additional cost to those districts participating in School Improvement (LS1) including Abbotsford, Altoona, Augusta, Bloomer, Bruce, Chippewa Falls, Colby, Eleva-Strum, Flambeau, Gilman, Gilmanton, Granton, Greenwood, Ladysmith, Lake Holcombe, Loyal, Mondovi, Neillsville, New Auburn, Osseo-Fairchild, Owen-Withee, and Spencer. (Discount will be automatically applied.)

The cost for all other participants will be $500 per workshop.
