Participants will explore the developmental mathematics learning trajectories, child-centered, developmentally appropriate instructional practices, and new strategies that nurture young children’s joy and curiosity in mathematics.

Session Objectives:

  • Understand how early number concepts develop in Grades K-2. 
  • Deepen our understanding of number relationship of spatial relationships (subitizing).
  • Deepen our understanding of number relationship of “anchors to five and ten” and “part part whole.” 
  • Understand how intentional use of the Composing Learning Trajectory supports the identification of developmental benchmarks leading to effective instructional decisions.

Teacher Standards
WES1The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the disciplines he or she teaches and can create learning experiences that make these aspects of subject matter meaningful for pupils.
WES2The teacher understands how children with broad ranges of ability learn and provides instruction that supports their intellectual, social, and personal development.
WES3The teacher understands how pupils differ in their approaches to learning and the barriers that impede learning and can adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs of pupils, including those with disabilities and exceptionalities.
WES4The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies, including the use of technology to encourage children’s development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.

Cancellation Policy:

Any registration cancellation must be received three days prior to the event date for a refund to be issued. Persons registering and not in attendance on the day of the session will be charged the full registration fee (substitution are accepted). CESA 12 reserves the right to cancel any session due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by email or phone if a cancellation occurs.
