The Best Practices for Teaching English Learners workshop series will combine research with ready-to-use strategies for sheltering your instruction with ELs! The Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) Model is a research-based instructional model that has proven effective in addressing the academic needs of English learners. The SIOP Model consists of eight interrelated components:  Lesson Preparation Building Background Comprehensible Input Strategies Interaction Practice/Application Lesson Delivery Review & Assessment During this guided demonstration workshop we will combine research with ready to use strategies for sheltering your instruction with English learners!

Audience: Foundation level workshop for K-12 staff working with culturally and linguistically diverse students and who want to understand/implement SIOP.

About the Presenter:

Tere MasiarchinTere Masiarchin provides high quality and relevant professional development, needs assessment, and program support to school districts with culturally and linguistically diverse students. Tere comes to CESA 2 from CESA 6 where she was the Director of the Language and Culture Center for 6 years.  She had previously spent 11 years in the Clintonville School District as the EL/Bilingual/Title III/21st CCLC Director and has been an adjunct professor at the UW-Green Bay. Tere began her career in Worthington, MN teaching English Learners for 3 years and teaching in the family literacy EvenStart Program.  Tere is a national SIOP and Thinking Maps Trainer. She loves working with educators and school districts to ensure English Learners are receiving an effective education based on sound legal and theoretical principles. Tere has been in the field of education since 1996 and enjoys supporting so many great and inspiring educators.


Cancellation Policy: Registered participants will receive a refund if they cancel prior to 3 working days before an event, minus any material costs that have already been incurred. Cancellations must either be made on MyQuickReg or by emailing cancel@cesa2.org. Because of our commitment to the presenter and the food vendor, participants who cancel less than 3 working days prior to the event or who do not attend the event, will be billed the full fee. CESA 2 reserves the right to cancel any event. Registered participants will be notified via phone and email if a cancellation occurs and will receive a full refund. 

Inclement Weather Policy: Every effort will be made to hold an event. CESA 2 will notify participants via email as soon as possible if an event has been cancelled due to weather conditions.

In-Person Events: Restrictions on our in-person events due to COVID-19 have been lifted. We will be responsive to what's happening within our communities, and guidelines from the CDC and local health agencies for future offerings and will update guidelines when necessary.
