In order to provide comprehensive support services in the school environment, it is important for paraprofessionals to understand the various developmental stages of children. This workshop will focus on human development and benchmarks for children based on current brain-based research. The risk of environmental factors that may impact typical development will also be explored. Through hands-on activities and collaborative exploration, paraprofessionals will be able to identify typical, age-appropriate behavior and learning and understand the importance of providing children with support and instruction at the appropriate level.

Presenter: Genevieve Kirchman, BS in Psychology, MS in Human Relations & Community Resources is the Safe and Drug Free Schools Project Director (SDFSC) for CESA 5. Genevieve provides information, training, and support to ATOD coordinators throughout CESA 5, as well as information and resources on violence prevention, TRIBES trainings for positive school environments, and brain works trainings.
