Early Childhood Strategic Planning Meeting

The Early Childhood Tribal (ECT) Workgroup will be convening on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 for full day of discussions and group exercises designed to achieve the workgroup’s future goal to form the First Nations’ Early Childhood Coalition along with the end-of-year symposium on May 15-16, 2019.

During a conference call on June 22, 2018, the core ECT Workgroup members received information of a grant application for a yearlong program that facilitates sustainable community partnerships through the development of collaborative leadership and public health skills among teams working on health improvement.

Healthy Wisconsin Leadership Institute (HWLI) partnered with Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council (GLITC) to develop the Native Breastfeeding Coalition of Wisconsin (NBFC). Suzette Rembert, Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and a member of the NBFC provided details with developing the coalition. HWLI's grant funding may be assist the ECT Workgroup to develop and sustain our work.

After this brief presentation, the core team agreed this grant seems to be a good fit for the ECT Workgroup. However due to the application's impending deadline applying for the grant was tabled. It was requested to bring this to another meeting because members said each would need approval from each of their tribal councils.

In this effort, we would like to invite everyone to our next meeting on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at the Lake of the Torches Convention Center in Lac du Flambeau, WI from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
