Educators are expected to “close the achievement gap” through increasing students’ reading skills. Students with IEPs are just one of the targeted student groups. To be “college and career ready”, all students need access to high expectations aligned with high quality curriculum. High expectations begin with the belief that the same learning targets apply to ALL. Participants will consider how to equitably meet the need of all students with the focus on students with IEP’s. Educators will learn about best instructional practices based on solid IEP goals and will learn how to apply strategies to literacy instruction.
College and Career Ready IEPs are meant to create that individualized “bridge” for students with disabilities to the general education curriculum and instruction. Having clear goals based on student need is imperative to delivering specialized instruction.
Outcomes
Teachers will learn how to develop solid and relevant IEP goals and deliver reading instruction based on needed skills. Guidance will also be provided in:
-
Understanding the need for a strong systemic reading foundation
-
Understanding the impact of instructional time, grouping, and classroom environment on student growth
-
Considering school improvement around reading instruction
