Description:  This session is designed for elementary teams involved in social studies standards rollout, particularly participants who have attended other social studies rollout trainings.  An exciting component of the revised standards is increased structure for districts who want it for K-5.  The standards are sorted into grade level bands (K-2, 3-5), but also into grade level suggestions for teaching and learning.  In addition, an appendix for a suggested K-5 scope & sequence for social studies offers a foundation for districts to open discussions about what they want their students to know and be able to do in social studies before leaving 5th grade.  Dig deep and build a quality elementary social studies program!

Session Focus/Topics:

* Sort and analyze the WI Standards for Social Studies K-2 and 3-5

* Understand the importance of K-5 social studies in the scope of student K-12 learning

* Analyze what the Inquiry Practices and Process strand looks like in the elementary grades

* Explore the essential questions tied to the K-2 and 3-5 indicators

Each Participant Must Bring:

* Laptop or tablet

Recommended Attendees:  Elementary social studies teachers, co-teachers, curriculum directors, principals, elementary literacy leaders

Cost/Fee:  CESA 7 District - $65 and Non-CESA 7 District - $100.00 (Includes Lunch and Materials.)
