Purpose of Workshop/Overview: The purpose of this workshop is to teach all staff working with students who require AAC, how we can support student learning and use of vocabulary across daily activities. This training will educate on best practice with regards to vocabulary selection to support communication development through the use of core vocabulary. We will take a practical approach to learn how this can be implemented within classroom activities without "recreating the wheel.!" Specific AAC modeling and implementation strategies will be taught with suggestions to encourage increased participation from your AAC users. Participants will have the opportunity to brainstorm and/or make and take lessons that are directly applicable to your own classrooms. We will have opportunities for group discussion for collaboration on tough cases.
What to bring: Not mandatory to bring/do, but would be beneficial as a form of "make and take" for you to bring technology for:
1.) Boardmaker/picture symbol software; and/or 2.) Speech Generating Device/iPad Communication App to program and make additions to (does not necessarily need to be student specific).
Teams are encouraged to attend.
Tess Heckel, CESA 8 Assistive Technology Coordinator will be our presenter. Tessa is also a licensed SLP.
