Please join us in this engaging professional development opportunity to increase understanding of reading difficulties in young children. Learn ways to detect and help your students overcome their literacy learning problems. Our work together will focus on a variety of ways to support struggling readers by targeting classroom, small group, and individual instruction. We will look at some specific teaching moves that help children build a processing system and become independent readers; we will also discuss how text reading, phonics, and writing work together.
Participants will:
- Examine what proficient readers look like and how to help our struggling readers not only solve words but comprehend and read fluently.
- Learn how to help struggling readers by recognizing their strengths, meeting the students where they are at and then providing specific teaching that supports children with what they need to help them grow as readers.
The intended audience is grades K through 3, but this workshop will also be helpful to teachers working with older students who are reading below grade level.
Registration Fee: $120 for School Improvement Members & $180 for Non-members
